Oving Scarecrow Day

A Celebratory Community Event

Welcome

Each year Oving Scarecrows mounts a celebratory family focused event which reaches into our whole community.

A Great Family Day Out

We are able to deliver such a great value day out largely because of our fabulous and loyal sponsors, so do check out our Thanks to… page and see just how lucky we are to have such brilliant community-spirited businesses in our area. And it’s worth adding that, because the day is an entirely not-for-profit event, we rely entirely on the community support of the whole village to make the day a success. Please see our Support page for more on this. Or for more information about the event itself, click the link below.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out on the day itself as well as helping out with the preparations. We are a friendly bunch and all us volunteers have a great time and we gain that glow one gets from knowing you are doing something really worthwhile. If you want to help us in any way, please let us know.

The scarecrows are placed all round our small village in people’s gardens and around the Church which has scarecrows outside it that have been made mostly by various youth groups. Disabled access is along a slightly sloping path and there is a ramp into the Church itself. This year there will also be a guest scarecrow area where non-residents can bring their scarecrows to display. Oving itself is fairly flat and level so suitable throughout for wheelchair users.

Disabled parking is available at the Jubilee Hall – please let us know in advance if this is required so that space can be reserved. The Hall has a disabled toilet.  There will be a Porta-Loo in the Church grounds also.

Refreshments will be available both in the Jubilee Hall and in the Church grounds. There will be various attractions inside and outside the Hall, in the field adjacent to the Hall and  inside and outside the Church. If anyone should have a mobility issue there will be a Tractor/trailer with a ramp and secure point for a wheelchair doing rides around the village all day.

Testimonial from Scarecrow Day 2024

“The highlight of my year – Oving Scarecrow Day, the best (all free) event I’ve been to – the whole village takes part, with a scarecrow competition in the surrounding homes and so many events spread around the village… Steel band, tractor rides, archery, classic cars, ferret racing and a music festival at the pub (Gribble Inn) so many food & craft stalls to name a few. The icing on the cake for me was winning first prize in the raffle – a massive scarecrow cake!”
